Bush gets 69’d

President Bush set a new record today, his disapproval rating hit 69 percent. I know what you are thinking, Americans think he’s doing a crappy job, but I see it more as a cleverly disguised though highly overused innuendo to draw the young people back into his fold. Mark my words you are going to start seeing “BUSH RULES” and "I 69'd BUSH" shirts popping up on college campuses all over the country. He’ll be the next Bob Barker, mark my words!! “The Democrats have taken control of the young people of this country, but I do like ‘em too. America is about Americans, and putting our young people in the jobs of our American dream.” Okay that isn’t really a quote from Bush, but it could be.

What’s funny (or sad) about this whole 69% disapproval rate is that back in September of 2001, in the days following the attack on the World Trade Center, Bush’s approval rating hit 90%. There are a few underlying things here, and yes I am about to break them down for you. 90% is the highest approval rating of any president since the Gallup Poll was started 70 years ago. 69% is the highest disapproval rating of any president as well. So Bush is also the recipient of an unofficial by-product record, the largest drop in approval of any president. His approval has dropped 59% in 6.5 years.

Scott Stanzel, the spokesman for the White House said “The president understands war and the slowdown in the economy weigh down public opinion, but the situation in Iraq is improving and the economy is about to get a big boost from the stimulus package.” What he failed to mention is that only about 27% of Americans polled say they are actually going to buy something with the stimulus package money. I can only assume they are going to buy gas for their 10 mile per gallon S.U.V.’s.

Here’s the real break down though. The stimulus package gives each American adult who filed their taxes before April 15th an extra $600, which mathematically comes out to $1.64 per day. If I add $1.50 I can buy a Grande Mocha at Starbucks every morning for the next year. So in reality this “stimulus package” that I am supposed to be so happy about is going to cost me $547.50 over the next year. Ok, I am being silly, I am not really going to go buy over priced burnt coffee with my money, I am going to buy gas for my S.U.V. The rest of America, those who bought Toyota Prius’ won’t need so much gas for their vehicles, so I can only assume they will be using their $600 to retire.
