Muslims Outraged by Scottish Police Pup
The more I look into humanity the more I realize how shallow, superficial and stupid we are capable of becomming. I wish, I truly wish that I hadn't read this today. I also try to write without cursing too much because I believe that great comedy is capable of being done without making the audiences ears (or in this case, eyes) burn.... but this is fucked up.
From the Daily Mail in England...
"A postcard featuring a cute puppy sitting in a policeman's hat advertising a Scottish police force's new telephone number has sparked outrage from Muslims.
Tayside Police's new non-emergency phone number has prompted complaints from members of the Islamic community.
The choice of image on the Tayside Police cards - a black dog sitting in a police officer's hat - has now been raised with Chief Constable John Vine."
Yes, the image next to the quote is the image in question, the newest recruit to the police force named Rebel. If Muslims need a dog free country or are truthfully offended by seeing a dog in print then it is really time to start reevaluating your religious viewpoints. Doing a little google.com research I found that it is estimated that for every one human on earth there are six dogs (wild and domesticated) that seems a little high, and I am not able to find any hard scientific data this quickly, but let's say they are off by 80%, that would bring us to one dog per human, a one to one ratio. If in fact dogs are "ritually unclean" as the Muslims say then how in the hell do you live in civilized society where dogs are common and apparently outnumber humans. Maybe I am being incredibly insensitive, but losing your shit over a picture in a magazine is not only stupid it's ridiculous and pointless. It's not like the Tayside Police Department showed up at every muslims doorstep in Scotland, had Rebel go into their house and take a little shit on the floor. Then yes I can see how you might feel a little violated by an advertising campaign using the dog.
I am also sad to say that a Tayside Police spokesman made this comment.
'Trainee police dog Rebel has proved extremely popular with children and adults since being introduced to the public, aged six weeks old, as Tayside Police's newest canine recruit.
'His incredible world-wide popularity - he has attracted record visitor numbers to our website - led us to believe Rebel could play a starring role in the promotion of our non-emergency number.
'We did not seek advice from the force's diversity adviser prior to publishing and distributing the postcards. That was an oversight and we apologise for any offence caused.'
Why? Why bother apologising? In no way was the Tayside Police Department in the wrong for doing what they did. I am sure you will still want them there if someone is busting through the window of your beautiful flat looking to steal your burka's ... suddenly that bubbly eyed puppy ain't so bad is it?
